I don’t really know where to start with this story. It still feels like a miracle that was just for me and my boyfriend. A few months ago, my dad got sick and passed away really suddenly. He was my only living parent and I was definitely not okay. I’ve had some mental health issues my whole life, and my dad dying was just the last straw. At least I thought that was the last one. Three months later, my boyfriend lost his job. He’s been working hard to find something new, but this economy is just hard. We were trying to handle the last of my dad’s debts and figure out how to pay off his funeral costs. And suddenly doing that on one income felt impossible. Honestly, everything felt impossible. One night, we were kind of fighting over money again when we heard a knock at the door. My boyfriend answered and there was just a white envelope stuck under our door. When we opened it, there was a ghost giver card and $500 in cash. We scanned the code and there was a message just telling us we weren’t alone and giving us encouragement to keep going. I still can’t figure out who knew or how they knew how much we needed that, but it didn’t feel random. It felt like someone knew we weren’t ok. Humbled doesn’t begin to describe it. We’re still digging out and that money didn’t fix all of our problems, but just knowing someone was paying attention and wanted to help meant the world. I’m committed to paying it forward as soon as we can.
