I wasn’t sure if I should even share this, but it feels too sweet not to. My boss, Dana, just came back after having back surgery, and honestly, she’s one of the hardest-working, most caring leaders I’ve ever known. The kind of person who remembers birthdays, checks in when you’re stressed, and always makes you feel valued. I could tell the recovery had been tough on her, and I just wanted her to feel a little extra love now that she was back in the office.
So I put together just a couple of small things—flowers, some TJ’s chocolate, and a gift card to her favorite store—and “ghosted” her office before she arrived. No note, no name, just a little “Ghost Giver” card. I’ll admit, I hesitated because, well, she’s the boss. But that’s exactly why I wanted it to be anonymous—so it would feel like pure gratitude and acknowledgement that she’s a person, too.
Later that day, I walked past her office and saw the flowers on her desk, and she had the happiest little smile. She kept thanking “whoever did this,” and I just sat there with my heart full. Dana pours so much into all of us, and she deserved that pick-me-up. I’ll never tell her it was me. Just knowing she felt appreciated was more than enough.
